  2. Referrals for Cooling • 15 transfer requests • 1 transfer cancelled by referring unit Baby deteriorated prior to NTS arrival • 1 transfer abandoned Baby deteriorated whilst NTS at referring NNU

  3. Transfer Request Demographics • SWMNN = 11 (73%) • SSBCNN = 4 (27%)

  4. Cooling Centre Demographics • Cancelled transfer = Heartlands • Abandoned transfer = New Cross

  5. Babies Age at Time of Referral • Cancelled transfer = 3 hrs 20 mins • Abandoned transfer = 1 hr 15 mins

  6. NTS Response Time • From time of call to NTS arrival on referring neonatal unit • Upto 2 hours = 11 (85%) • 2 – 3 hours = 2 (15%)

  7. Babies Age at Cooling Centre • 15 hrs 35 mins Baby’s condition poor; Nitric oxide used, inotropes, phenobarb x2 (7 hours stabilisation time) • 8 hrs 30 mins Demographics; Hereford to Heartlands 111miles ( 3 hours stabilisation time)

  8. Babies Age when Therapeutic Hypothermia Achieved(33-34º) • 8 babies achieved therapeutic range within 6 hours. • 3 babies achieved therapeutic range within 8 hours. • 2 babies never achieved therapeutic range during transfer process.

  9. Babies Age when Therapeutic Hypothermia Achieved(33-34º) • Baby A was < 33ºC prior to NTS arrival using active cooling. • Active cooling discontinued upon NTS arrival. • Baby B was 36.5ºC prior to NTS arrival using passive cooling. • Active cooling commenced upon NTS arrival.
