  2. What is an Epic Poem? • An epic poem is a long narrative about the adventures of a larger than life character

Characteristics of an epic poem • Hero is a great leader. • The setting is broad and includes supernatural realms. • The hero does great deeds in battle or undertakes an extraordinary journey or quest. • The hero is a figure of great national or even cosmic importance-usually the ideal man of his culture.

  4. Epic Characteristics • The action consists of deeds of valor or superhuman courage (especially in battle). • It opens in the middle of things. • The setting is vast and it covers many nations, the under world and the universe.

  6. Hero Activity With your group, develop a hero. • Draw an image of someone who portrays a hero to you. • The hero does not necessarily have to be a one person. Is there a group that represents heros to you? • Creatively incorporate words or symbols that explain why this person is a hero. • Color and accentuate. Present!
