Creating a Task List

Task
  • Tasks are the most basic building blocks of any project
  • Task represent the work to be done to accomplish the goals of the project
  • Task describe project work in terms of sequence, duration and resource requirements

  • Each task has a unique ID number, but it does not necessarily represent the order in which task occur
  • By default the task start date is the same as the project start date and the one day for the duration

Task Duration
  • Task duration is the amount of time you expect it will take to complete the task
  • You can work with task duration on the scale of hours, days and weeks (m,h,d,w,mo)
  • The question mark in the duration field indicates that the duration is an explicit estimate

  • 8/80 rule suggests that task duration between 8 hours and 80 hours are generally sized to a manageable duration

  • Milestones are significant events that are either reached within the project or imposed itself
  • It represented as task with zero duration
summary task
Summary task
  • It is helpful to organize groups of closely related tasks that represent a major portion of the project’s work into phases
  • For the summary task you can’t edit it’s duration , start date or other calculated value directly
