  3. Did You Know? • Average job in America lasts 3.6 years • Average student can expect 9-13 job changes in his/her lifetime • 7 of 10 Americans say they would change jobs tomorrow if they could because the work they are doing is not fulfilling or interesting.

  4. We Can Help:Our Mission Is Student Success! We seek to assist students in the development of career plans and job search skills that can be used throughout their careers.

  5. CAREER SERVICES ROLE We assist students with all steps in career planning process by providing: • Interesting career workshops • Career fairs • Career assessments • We connect students with employers to gain career experiences • An extensive career library

  6. Tell Your Story • Insert a picture/testimonial/statistics to help tell your career centers story • Appeal to the emotions/ appeal to the intellect • Build your case

  7. CAREER PLANNING PROCESS Six Step Process: • Self-assessment • Explore the work world • Make decisions & set goals • Plan appropriate education • Obtain career experience • Conduct a job search

  8. FACULTY ROLE Instructors can help students in the career planning process by including: • Career center assignments • Inviting career staff to class • Connecting course content to career skills

  9. To Help Faculty • We do in-class presentations. • We assist students who come to the career center with career assignments. • We have ideas to help you to link your course content with careers.

  10. ACADEMIC COUNSELORS ROLE Counselors can help students in the career planning process by: • Referring students to career services • Recommending research to connect academic majors and careers • Suggesting career experiences to extend academic background

  11. To Help Academic Counselors • We have a simple referral process. • We provide electronic follow-up for all student referrals. • We offer career experiences, like internships, to help extend transfer students’ portfolio.

  12. STUDENT ROLE Students must have the initiative to begin the career process by: • Identifying their values, interests, strengths • Developing marketable skills • Participating in career experiences • Employing campus career resources
