  1. Paramecium caudatum (Protist) By: Jessica, Sabrina, Jennifer

  2. Small. • Unicellular • adult is approximately .25 mm

  3. Reproduction • Both asexually and sexually. • Under ideal conditions they reproduce asexually 2-3 times a day. • Normally only reproduce sexually under stressful environment.

  4. Fertilzation • N/A only one cell. • Sexual fertilization is conjugation – it consists of 2 organisms and the exchange of micronuclear elements.

  5. Development • N/A only one cell. • Mostly live and develop in aquatic environments (warm water) • Feed off of dead decaying plant matter

  6. Gametes • N/A single cell • Meiosis occurs in paramecium but no gametes are formed

  7. Offspring • There are approximately 11-13 offsprings produced per reproductive event

  8. Gestation period • It takes about 2 week ( 14-17 days) of development before “birthing”

  9. PARents • N/A no parental care

  10. Mating • N/A no courtship

  11. Fun facts • THEY ARE COOL THINGS AND LIVE IN LAKES. • They are most complex single cellular organisms. • The old macronucleus disintegrates and a new one is formed.
