Human-Environment Interaction – how people depend on the environment or change land • 4. Movement – connection between places and patterns of movement • 5. Region – ex. Tourist, political, business, rural, urban, suburban, or even school district

Natural resources – raw materials that exist in a natural state and used to make other goods • Forest – a large growth of trees • Soils • Loam – soil made up of sand, silt, clay, and organic matter • Fossil Fuels – resources formed millions of years ago from the remains of plants and animals under the earth’s crust • Anthracite coal – HARD coal • Bituminous coal - SOFT coal • Natural Gas – Gas coming from the earth’s crust • Petroleum – (oil) flammable liquid, drilled from the ground, , refined into gasoline and fuel oils • Mineral Resources – any useful substance found in the earth that has not been formed by plant and animal remains • Human Resources – utilizing the talents of the states population • Census – government count of the population – 10 years • Population Density – average number of people per square mile
