  1. NICA INJECTOR • Brief remarks on the status based on recent presentations and publications.

  2. The injector scheme

  3. Linac LU-20 & fore-injector

  4. Basic problems

  5. HILac – Booster beam line • Goals of the beam line • The beam transport with minimal ion losses. • The beam matching with Booster. • Separation of parasitic charge states. Beam Parameters 7

  6. LU20 fore-injector modernization Co-operation with ITEP and MEPhI Two RFQ (one - for proton, second – for deuterons and light ions) + RF generator + Low energy beam transport line (LEBT) Technical design of RFQ for light ions is completed in 2012 Fabrication is in progress at Snezhinsk Modulator and RF amplifier are constructed and being tested on equivalent load (ITEP). LEBT and MEBT design is in progress, construction at JINR HV supplies and divider transformers are delivered to JINR Start of assembly and test in Dubna are scheduled for 2014

  7. Heavy Ion Linear accelerator (HILac) IH-2 IH-1 RFQ Krion-6T Design and fabrication under contract with “BEVATECH OHG” Germany, Offenbach/Main, to be delivered at JINR April 2014.

  8. Polarized particles • source: • results of the test to the end of 2013 (polarized protons and deutrons) • modernization of LU-20 fore-injector: • RF generator is ready and tested at equivalent load • 2. RFQ: • – completion of the manufacturing is expected in autumn of 2013 (we had delay • of ~ 6 month due to discussion of the Contract formalities with Snezhinsk). • RF test to the end of 2013, • LEBT, MEBT is under design in JINR, • Assembly and commissioning in JINR after spring run 2014 • Optimistic perspective: first run at the Nuclotron in autumn of 2014

  9. Heavy ions for fixed target experiments • New source KRION-6T: • The results at test bench are expected by autumn 2013. • First test at the Nuclotron is possible with existing injector: • The ions with A > 100 (A/Z ~ 1/3), at intensity of about 107, • maximum possible energy is around 2.5-3 GeV/u (1.5-1.9 T field) - 48 run (Nov-Dec 2013) • 2. HILac (commissioning will be started in the middle of 2014) – delay from manufacturer due to difficulties with RF system sub-contractor ~ 3 months: • - injection into Nuclotron we do not see reasonable (of high priority) … : • (large vacuum loses, energy is about 2 GeV/u, low B_inj, etc…) • Commissioning of HILAC and experimental studies of different modes operation with KRION-6N and injection channel to Booster: 2014-2015 • 3. Booster (commissioning is scheduled for end of 2015): • injection septum and kicker have to be designed, fabricated and installed at the Nuclotron (6th Stright Section) – 2 years
