  1. COURSE: TELECOMMUNICATIONECONOMICSPROFESSOR: WUHONGSchool of Economics and Management BUPT Economics Research Center (MING GUANG 504) Tel:13621050170 Email: w_hong@263.net

  2. Chapter 3 Communications Network ⅠTheoretical foundation ofCommunications Network Ⅱ Telecommunications Network Ⅲ The development of Telecommunications Network ⅣPostal Communications Network and its development

  3. Communications Network • Concept: A telecommunications network is a network of telecommunications links and nodes arranged so that messages may be passed from one part of the network to another over multiple links and through various nodes. • Telecommunications Network 、 Postal Communications Network,Two-way network. • Consists of: • Communication points: Communication points and Communications nodes 。 • Communication links: composing informationtransmission channels between the points of Communications Network. • Which including: • traditional Communications Network:relativeindependent 、compartmental operation (Segmentation operation). • Modern communications network ——“Information Super Highway”,amalgamation、 integration is the tide.

  4. LAN Architecture and Topologies Star network netty network Ring network bus-network • netty network • Star network • ring network • bus-network • complex network • tree network • Cellular Network complex network tree network Cellular Network

  5. Physical Network • Physical Network is the practical network consists of hard equipment of the telecommunications network. From the insight of physical layer ,the telecommunications network consists of three major systems : a user equipment, transmission systems and switching systems. Which Can be presented by a simple schematic. • User equipment:phone equipment、Data communications equipment、and Video Terminal . • Transmission systems:the means by which information travels through the network, comprising the transmission medium and transmission interface equipment. • Switching systems:the means by which (temporary) connections between the calling party and the called party are established.

  6. Service Network • PSTN • PSTN, the Public Switched Telephone Network, is a circuit-switched network that is used primarily for voice communications worldwide, with more than 800 million subscribers. Originally a network of fixed-line analog telephone systems, the PSTN is now almost entirely digital and also includes mobile as well as fixed telephones. • Today typical PSTN: Public Switched Telephone Network for voice and data communications with both wireless and wire line access • Hierarchy of china telephone network • RC: Mobile Communication network • Reliable radio communication is crucial for border surveillance and protection. Customs uses short- and long-range radio communication equipment that includes transportable units for remote areas and waterproof sets for the marine environment. Communication is possible between Customs marine craft and commercial ships and yachts. • Mobile telecommunication system Structure • Radio Communication network Structure • DCN: Data Communication Network • A configuration of telecommunication facilities for the purpose of transmitting data , as opposed to analog signals. • Data communication system structure

  7. Data communication system structure Data terminal Equipment Computer system central processing unit Communication control units data circuit terminating equipment Digital Circuit-terminating Equipment Data input/output Equipment Transmission Controller transmission channel Telecommunication circuit Data links

  8. Telecommunication network Technology Development Trend • Packet switch network • NGN with open architecture • Network Convergence (Triple networks convergence, fixed and mobile network convergence) • Broadband multimedia mobile network(3G, B3G) • Access Broadband, Mobility (FTTH, etc) • Intelligent Optical Network • Networking between persons and machines, (person-to person communications, networking of person-to-machine and machine-to-machine)

  9. Future Telecom Technologies NGN and services NGN Numbering Addressing System (such as IPV6, ENUM, etc) Quality & Security of Services and Network) Telecom network, computer network and broadcasting &TV network, fixed and mobile network and services appear convergence trends Higher speed, individualized, plug-in, seamless access N3G technology

  10. Future Telecom Technologies FTTH, higher-speed and lower-cost wireless broadband Household Network (WLAN, Bluetooth, UNB) Super-speed Intelligent Optical Network Network Security and Emergency Communication Technologies RFID, Sensor Technology, Biology Technology, grid. Future communication demand challenge science and technology.

  11. Postal Communication Network • Postal communication – A type of communication which is an integrated production technological complex of technical and transportation means which provides the receipt, handling, transportation and delivering of postal items as well as postal money transfer. • Postal communication network - A unity of postal communication objects and postal routes. • Postal Communication NetworkArchitecture : • Material transmission network:Material network or Nordic Network • Integrated Computer Network: • Functional levels: • Postal communications network consists of a physical network, operational norms and operation control system. • Physical network is the material basis for the production operation. • operational norms is the norms of Production Operation. • Operation Control System, the implementation of Operation Monitoring and control to ensure reliable operation of the whole network to ensure smooth production Post.

  12. Material transmission network • Network consists • Postal material transmission is a network system for mails transfer and material logistics under the supervision and control of control system in accordance with operational norms organized by the postal business, mailing office, reach facilities, mail processing center and Postman (including Mail Tools) according to certain principles and modalities.Network organization mode • Postal district center office system • Postal Communication Network sketch map • Postal Material transmission network layers and types • layers:National Route (backbone) Network,Provincial Network,Postal district Material transmission network • Types:(In accordance with the transmission speed ):Courier Network,General Parts Network

  13. Post integrated computer network • Consists of • Physical network • Software systems • Physical Structure • Backbone • Network within the province • local area network • Software systems • For the Completion of the information collection, processing, application, storage capabilities. Post integrated computer network↓

  14. Material network: Urban and rural coverage

  15. Information network:Security and convenient
