  2. background • The inventor was born in 1843, in Colchester, Ontario, Canada. His parents were former slaves, George and Mildred McCoy (nee Goins) had fled Kentucky for Canada on the underground railroad. • In 1868, Elijah McCoy married Ann Elizabeth Stewart who died four years later. A year later, McCoy married his second wife Mary Eleanora Delaney. The couple had no children.

  3. Family life • He really didn’t have a good life with his family. He was always too busy with his work.

  4. inventions • He had 57 patents for lubricators. His first was in July 12, 1872. They were made for steam engines to pump oil to the shafts.

  5. school • He had no schooling.

  6. Death • October 10, 1929 McCoy died from senile dementia due to hypertension after spending a year in the Eloise infirmary in Michigan.
