  4. History and Origin • Since 1962 NCC and our partners have helped to conserve more than 2 million acres of ecologically significant land • Founded almost 50 years ago • By citizens involved in a private action

  5. Got its name in 1962 • Ontario naturalists realized unless action was taken soon to protect natural spaces, auxileration rhythms of booming economy would soon consume most of the economically significant land in Canada

  6. Success Stories • 1968, first successful project Cavan Swamp and bog • 1972, NCC embarks on the Mud Bay project, first site in British Columbia • 1978, NCC launches Broken Head River Forest Reserve, first project in Manitoba

  7. 2002, celebrated NCC’s 40th anniversary • 2008, NCC exceeds more than 2000 acres, over 800,000 hectares of land protected in Canada
