  3. MCC’s Perkins 5 Year Plan Process • Perkins priorities were determined using a four-step process: • First, an interdisciplinary team of faculty, deans, student services personnel, career center personnel, and administrators was convened to serve as the Perkins Planning team. • The Perkins Planning Team convened for multiple planning sessions which ultimately led to development of a five-year plan. • Next, the drafted five-year plan was reviewed at the president and cabinet level for alignment with college strategic initiatives and areas of emphasis. • Following that review, the plan was posted on the MCC website for public comment and review. The opportunity for formal feedback was available through an online survey.

MCC’s Annual Perkins Goals • Goal 1—Develop components of optimal career pathways and strengthen local Secondary/Postsecondary Linkages • Goal 2—Develop MCC Career Guidance model and enhance Career Services for CTE students • Goal 3—Provide state-of-the-art technology and equipment for career education • Goal 4—Review and revise MCC career education curriculum • Goal 5—Provide strong professional development systems/opportunities to enhance student achievement in career education • Goal 6—Provide specialized support services for students in special populations and non-traditional career areas

Perkins Projects Related to: Secondary/Postsecondary Linkages • High School Mini-Grants-area high schools submit mini-grant applications to MCC requesting Perkins funds to establish /implement dual enrollment or career academy partnerships • Millard Public Schools • Culinary Arts Career Academy • Health Sciences Career Academy • Omaha Public Schools • Instructional Materials/Resources for dual enrollment courses in Criminal Justice and Accounting • Papillion-LaVista Public Schools • Medical Sciences Career Academy • Gretna Public Schools • Health Sciences Career Academy • Dual Enrollment courses in Math and Science

Perkins Projects Related to: Secondary/Postsecondary Linkages • CTE Teacher Summer Internship Program • The internship program is designed for area high school teachers, counselors, or administrators to experience hands on work that their students are typically seeking for employment. This experience will help to enhance classroom instruction for students while fostering partnerships between school and business • The program involves a 40-hour work experience at a business. Participants record skills observed on the job and formulate curriculum recommendations, timelines for possible implementation and lesson plans after the internship.

Perkins Projects Related to: Career Services for CTE Students • Career Development Facilitator Training (CDF): Three MCC Career Services Representatives attended the CDF training at Central Community College. This intensive training enables our Career Services staff to work more effectively with students in career advisement • Four Career Services staff completed the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Career Coaching Workshop • In class Career Services Presentation Series-MCC Career Service staff developed a series of presentations and regularly present to CTE classrooms on topics such as: Resume Development, Career Interests/Assessments, Interviewing Techniques, etc…

  8. Perkins Projects Related to: State of the Art Technologies and Equipment • Local industry strives to use the latest technology to improve both products and labor force productivity. Perkins funding has been essential to MCC to match industry standards and train students on the latest technologies • Established a new Urban Agriculture Lab • Expanded the Automotive Technology Lab to include 2 Industry Standard Brake Lathes • Purchased an “industry standard” Robotic Total Station and CNC Router in the Construction Technology Lab • State of the Art equipment for Process Operations Technology • As a result of program growth in MCC’s Utility Line program, Perkins funds were used to purchase a double bucket truck, as well as other equipment critical to training Utility Line Technicians • Additionally, Perkins has been a crucial resource for MCC enabling the college to purchase equipment for the growing programs in Health, Fire Science, and Criminal Justice. • On, and on, and on…..

Perkins Projects Related to: Review and Revise Curriculum / Professional Development • MCC piloted a program in which a Math faculty member worked collaboratively with a faculty member in the Trades. The two faculty members have implemented the principles and practices of Math-in-CTE and are team teaching creating partnerships between the two departments. • Implementing Writing into the Curriculum-facultyfrom Diesel Technology, Business, Culinary Arts, Horticulture, CADD, Visual Arts, IT, and Applied Technology participated in training to develop strategies for incorporating writing into their curriculum, design writing assignments, and develop tips on grading writing assignments.

Perkins Projects Related to: Review and Revise Curriculum / Professional Development • Integrating Service Learning Principles into CTE Curriculum-Faculty from multiple departments received formal training in Service Learning and how to incorporate Service Learning principles into their curriculum. • Entrepreneurship Across the Curriculum-CTE faculty participating in the program learn to embed elements of entrepreneurship by creating and implementing targeted teaching discussions to plant the seed and spark conversation towards entrepreneurial activities customized to the different subjects and needs being instructed at MCC.

Perkins Projects Related to: Support Services for Special Populations • Single Parent Homemaker Services mission is to facilitate student learning, self-sufficiency, and personal and career development that includes an implementation of education plans, which are compatible with the life and career goals of our students. • The mission of Disability Support Services at Metropolitan Community College is to foster an accessible environment where we value students on the basis of ability, not disability. This is accomplished by providing qualified students with the tools and support to ensure access to all programs and activities.
