  1. I’M ABOUT TOPREACH

  2. AND READMatthew 14:22 - 33 Jesus Walks on the Water 22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd.23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. 25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. 27 But Jesus immediately said to them:“Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

  3. 28“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” 29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said,“why did you doubt?” 32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

  4. Go out. V. 22 • The Bible clearly and purposefully says that Jesus INSISTED or as the NIV says, MADE, His Disciples get in the boat and go out ahead of Him. • At times it feels like Jesus sends us out of His Presence • During some journeys Jesus wants us to rely on past lessons we’ve learnt.

  5. Personal Application: • When have you felt like God isn’t around in your life? • What past lessons helped you in the situation you are in now? • What past lessons have you forgotten that could have helped you?

  6. What is God Saying? • When Jesus sends us out into possible trying situations, He is constantly interceding for us. (Matt 14:23; Luke 22:31-32)

  7. Get out. V. 28 – 29 • The Bible records that while the Disciples were terrified and Jesus reassured them, Simon asked to get out and go to where Jesus was. • You have to get out of your comfort zone • You have to trust in the One who said “Come”

  8. Personal Application: • What is your boat? (Comfort zone) • What winds and waves in life scares you the most?

  9. What is God saying? • There will be trials, there will be temptations, there will difficult situations, there will be trying times; but there WILL also be Jesus! • At times when you are so terrified that even the presence of God scares you, Jesus will encourage and comfort you.

  10. Call out. V. 30 • Sometimes your faith will fail and you will sink. • There will be others that are looking to you for the answers

  11. Personal Application: • What things in your life cause you to take your eyes off Jesus and focus on the circumstances? • How deep do you usually sink before you call out to Jesus?

  12. What is God saying? • When life gets you down, and you drown in the storms life throws at you. When you call out to Him, He will reach out and rescue you. • He will get in the situation with you and help you to safe ground. And lead you to the destination He sent you.

  13. Conclusion: • No-one is exempted from the trials of life, no-one is promised clear blue skies and sunny weather. At times the skies grow dark with storm clouds and all life around you seems gray. But God stands ready to reach out and save anyone who dares to call on His name amidst the storms of life.
