  2. Discussion Topics • Operating System Support Plans • UNICOS 10.0.0.7 Reminder • UNICOS Plans (10.0.0.8 and 10.0.0.9) • Tapes • DMF • Secure Shell (SSH) • Gigabit Ethernet CUG Cray SV1 Workshop

  3. C90, J90 VME UNICOS 10.0 SV1 VME UNICOS 10.0 T90 (Model E) UNICOS10.0 UNICOS For GigaRing Systems UNICOS/mk For T3E Systems Active Maintenance Mode Retired Operating System Support Plans 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 CUG Cray SV1 Workshop

  4. UNICOS Support Modes • Active Support • Software Releases with committed features • Publications (manuals, man pages, etc.) • Fixes for all severity levels • Maintenance Mode • Software Updates; some features • Fixes focus on Critical and Urgent • Retired • Critical-only help via support contract CUG Cray SV1 Workshop

  5. UNICOS 10.0.0.7Reminder • Dynamic MSP • Configured maximum for system • Created and dissolved by the kernel basedon demand • Users can gang-schedule autotasked codesvia /etc/cpu command CUG Cray SV1 Workshop

  6. UNICOS 10.0.0.8 Planned Release 12/2000 • SV1e CPU Support (pre-hardware) • I/O Module Support (P-SV1-IO-MODULE) • Networking Threads • Interrupt Processor Selection • Resiliency Changes • Faster downing of failing CPUs • Reclamation of process memory assigned to down CPU • Conditional freeing of process locks CUG Cray SV1 Workshop

  7. UNICOS 10.0.0.9Planned Release 2Q2001 • SV1ex Extended Memory Support • Transparent SSD Support (Model E “model”) • SSD Resident NC1 Filesystems • Ldcache • Fast Swap • Secondary Data Segments (SDS) • I/O Changes for Optimum Backdoor-likeCapability (SuperRing) • General Kernel Performance CUG Cray SV1 Workshop

  8. UNICOS Tape Support • Tested/Supported with UNICOS 10.0.0.8 • STK 9840 SCSI and Escon • IBM 3590E SCSI and Escon (A60) • Quantum DLT8000 • Planning Support of: • STK 9940 Escon (3590 Emulation) • STK L700 Library • Fibre Channel Research CUG Cray SV1 Workshop

  9. Cray DMF • Cray has the rights to support/enhanceDMF 2.5 on Cray platforms • Cray will actively support DMF 2.5 for as long as we support UNICOS • Cray does not have the rights to the SGI-development version DMF (3.0) • Future: • Investigate possible DMF 3.0. Client • Look for winning standard for HSM support CUG Cray SV1 Workshop

  10. Secure Shell (SSH) • Resource hired to port and support SSH on UNICOS • OpenSSH is the likely candidate • No decision yet on method for release(encryption algorithms), license or support fees • Planned availability is 2Q2001 but willdepend on release vehicle CUG Cray SV1 Workshop

  11. Gigabit Ethernet • Working with Essential Communicationsto provide a Layer 7 Router (L7R) solution for UNICOS • Connection requires HIPPI • Early Beta-test performance seen on an SV1 for TCP: • ~250 Mb/s at 1500 Byte MTUs • ~350 Mb/s at 9K Byte MTUs • Planned availability 1Q2001 CUG Cray SV1 Workshop
