  1. Which one would you choose?

A presentation designed to teach 3rd graders about the importance of making good choices for a healthy lifestyle
  2. Sam is a 3rd grade student learning about healthy choices. He tries to make the right decisions, but sometimes he needs a little help.Follow Sam throughout his day and see what kind of choices he is faced with. When he asks you for help, its up to you to make the right choice for him. Make your decision, and then click the button at the bottom of the page to go to the next slide. Hopefully you’ve made the healthy choice! Best of luck! 
  3. Every morning Sam wakes up and stumbles downstairs to the kitchen. He opens the doors to the pantry and wonders: “What should I have for breakfast today?” He has two options… OR Sugary Cereal Oatmeal Which one would you choose?
  4. Let’s see how you did… You chose: Sugary Cereal You chose: Oatmeal Oh no… The sugary cereal may look and sound tastier than the oatmeal, but it is not the healthy choice. Some cereals have lots of empty calories and tons of sugar! This choice does not give you the lasting energy you need to stay active during the day. Congratulations! While oatmeal may not look as good as that bowl of marshmallows, it is packed with fiber, vitamins, minerals, and calcium! Talk about a bowl of health! Your tummy will thank you for making this healthy choice.
  5. At school, Sam has computer class on the third floor of the building. He finds himself faced with another decision: “Which way should I take to get to class?” He has two options… OR Take the stairs Take the elevator Which one would you choose?
  6. Let’s see how you did… You chose: Taking the stairs You chose: Taking the elevator Good for you! Taking the stairs burns calories and gets your heart pumping. This is a great example of an everyday action you can do to keep active. Uh-Oh… Taking the elevator burns 0 calories. While it gets you there quicker, it isn’t helping you much in the long run.
  7. When Sam gets home, he wants a snack. He sees there are a pile of cookies on the counter. There are also bananas. Which snack is best for me? He has two options… OR Bananas Cookies Which one would you choose?
  8. Let’s see how you did… You chose: Cookies You chose: Banana Uh-Oh… A cookie now and then is ok, but when you’re hungry, its not a good idea to dig into a pile of these tasty treats. Cookies have TONS of sugar and empty calories. Good choosing! Bananas are one of the 5 servings of fruit you need daily. They are jam packed with vitamins and good calories!
  9. Way to go helping Sam! In this activity you have learned how to make good choices on a daily basis. We hope you continue to make healthy choices in the future!
