Kidney cancer is among the 10 most common cancers in both men and women. Overall, the lifetime risk for developing kidney cancer is about 1 in 63 (1.6%).

What is Kidney Cancer?

Also known as renal cell cancer, Kidney cancer is a mass that grows in the meat of the kidney. Kidney cancer is rare in people under 50 but more than a third (35%) of cases of kidney cancer are diagnosed in people aged 75.

Being obese is considered as the major risk factor for kidney cancer. A BMI score of 25 or above has been shown to increase a person's chances of developing kidney cancer. Those with a BMI score of 30 or above are at particularly high risk.
