  2. Sun’s Interior • Central region of the sun where nuclear fusion takes place • Region of tightly packed gas where energy is transferred mainly in the form of light • Outer most layer of the sun’s interior

  3. Sun’s Interior • Layer that gives off visible light. The sun’s surface. • Middle layer of sun’s atmosphere • The outer layer of sun’s atmosphere. Streams out to become solar wind

  4. Sun’s Features • Sunspots – cool spots that appear dark on the sun’s surface

  5. Sun’s Features • Prominences – huge reddish loop of gas that protrudes from the sun’s surface

  6. Sun’s Features • Solar Flare – eruption of gas from the sun’s surface when the loops in sunspot regions suddenly connect

  7. Sun’s Features • Solar wind – stream of ions that emanate from the sun’s corona
