  2. Agenda • Reading Goal: • Identify the big ideas, or themes, in the text by looking for repeated topics. • Today’s Big Question: • Who was responsible for the Salem witch scare? • Team cooperation goal: explain your ideas and tell why.

Review and background • Review the main events with your partner. • T-P-S: • What was the result of the first three examinations? • What do you think will happen next? • What can the villagers do to bring the witch scare to an end? • Do you think it will stop when they find the other two witches to whom Tituba referred? Why or why not?

  4. Theme • What is the overall feeling of the villagers? • Is this rational? What might be some reasons they keep feeling this fear? • What is theme in a story? • Remember, theme is not explicitly stated. Look for big ideas that keep reoccurring and try to figure out what the theme may be.
