  2. characterize • When you characterize someone or something, you describe the most important characteristics or qualities. • How would you characterize the situation?

  3. intensity • To have intensity means to have a lot of feeling and strength. • The sun shone with great intensity.

  4. lucid • If a person is lucid it means that they are sane. • Though grandma seemed crazy, she had her lucid moments.

  5. obscure • To obscure is to conceal or hide. • The movie was full of obscure references that only people from an older generation would understand.

  6. pathetic • Pitifully inferior or inadequate. • His story was a pathetic attempt to cover up his lie.

  7. perspective • Perspective is a point of view or opinion about something. • Everyone brings a different perspective to the situation because we are all different people.

  8. pretense • Pretense is the act of pretending. • We tried to keep up the pretense that everything was fine but of course it wasn’t.

  9. stigmatize • To stigmatize someone or something is to disgrace or label as bad. • After losing their first three games, the team was stigmatized as the worst in the state.
