  2. James Nachtwey James Nachtwey was born on March 14, 1948. He we born in Syracuse, N.Y. From 1976 to 1980 he was a newspaper photographer in New Mexico. In 1980 he moved to New York City to work as a freelance photographer. There he joined Black Star agency. After his first foreign assignment, in Northern Ireland, he worked in Central America, the Middle East, Africa, and Eastern Europe. The images he recorded in those places appeared in a number of international publications, including National Geographic, Life, Time, El País, and L'Express. In 1984 he became a contract photographer with Time magazine. He was a member of Magnum photography cooperative from 1986 to 2001, when he became one of the founding members of the photo agency VII, named for the number of its founding members.

  3. James Nachtwey His books include Deeds of War (1989) and Inferno (1999). War Photographer (2001) is a documentary film about Nachtwey and his work. His style of work is really taking pictures of sad or tragic things and trying to tell the life story behind it all. He got most of his inspiration from the studies that he did at Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H. A quote of James Nachtwey is….. "I have been a witness, and these pictures are my testimony. The lighting is really good because it really brings out the scares. What is the main subject? his scares on his face! How can you tell? because he turned his head so we can see what has happened to this poor man. How dose the composition works to make the photo striking? It shows the sadness in his face with what happened to is face. The scare lines point to his ear which some is missing. What is the photographer trying to communicate in the photographs? he is trying so say that “ look this is going on out there in the world while we are sitting at home and safe.
