X Ray Diffraction By Kaustubhi Singh
Introduction We can define X-Rays or X-radiation as a form of electromagnetic radiation. They are powerful waves of electromagnetic energy. X-ray diffraction, a phenomenon in which the atoms of a crystal, by virtue of their uniform spacing, cause an interference pattern of the waves present in an incident beam of X rays. The atomic planes of the crystal act on the X rays in exactly the same manner as does a uniformly ruled grating on a beam of light.
Principle of X Ray Diffraction The atomic planes of an crystal causes an incident beam of X-Ray to interfere with one another as they leave the crystal. This Phenomenon is called as X-Ray diffraction
Instrumentation: • X Ray tube : X Rays are produced and emitted by it • Collimator :A collimator is a metallic barrier with an aperture in the middle used to reduce the size and shape of the X-ray beam • Filter : The beam is made monochromatic by a suitable filter. It absorbs unrequired radiation. • Detector : Is used to detect the defracted spots
