  5. A When you have an “ace in the hole!” Timing is Everything • Do your homework first • Start your job search early • Clarify the offer - have all the details first Most advantageous time . . .

  6. Salary? -- usually not . . . . . . but other compensation and benefits count!!! Is Everything Negotiable? • Signing bonus • Stock options • Cost of Living • Wellness Program • Child care • Health Insurance • Domestic Partner Benefits • Flextime & Telecommuting • Tuition Assistance • 401K & Retirement

  7. Be careful out there . . . Negotiating can be risky! • Be reasonable -- it is not a good idea to set ultimatums unless you are willing to walk away • Remember -- a job offer can be pulled if the employer feels they cannot meet your requests • Juggling offers is tricky -- do not get caught in the trap of pitting one offer against another • If you communicate “this is what it will take to get me to say yes” -- say yes if they meet your requests

  8. Leave nothing to chance • Get your final offer in writing • No need to accept immediately • Accept the offer in writing • Decline your other offers in writing
