You also get used to where your classrooms are and you will know your way round the school in days.” -Lucy Robinson “All of the teachers are very kind and welcoming. They encourage you to take part and have a go, even if you don’t enjoy it, because what you do in subjects is different and it might change your mind. ” -Jimmy Yeoman “I found the induction days a real help. I got to know my way around the school and recognised some of the teachers. The induction days acted as a stepping stone and really helped.” -Thomas Allison I was worried about going to a new school. Everything was new and unfamiliar. However, the teachers were friendly and happy to help. Year 6 Transition Days: 25th June: Chocolate Day Activities may include: • Design heat resistant packaging for chocolate bars • Write an advertising jingle • Test – taste v calories! • Match fair trade chocolates to their countries of origin • Analyse the chemical properties of chocolate in the science laboratory. …and continue to find your way around!

  29. New Intake ‘Move-up’ Day Unusually, on a Thursday this year, 3rd July. This day aims to give your child a taste of the style of learning experience s/he will have in September. Your child will participate in the normal College schedule and will participate in a full day of actual lessons. A students’ handbook will be issued, detailing every aspect of the school day at Newmarket College.

Next steps from you please: • Return the form about your child’s friendship groups. • Complete and hand in the ‘student information form’ • Return the form about lunches / medical issues etc. • Be sure to take home your information sheet about the induction programme • Please make sure you have signed the ‘Register’ • Take home your copy of Y10’s guide to the College
