  4. Jolly Phonics • The Jolly Phonics Programme is used where children learn the sound that each letter makes along with sounds that groups of letters make. This is story, action and music based, taught via the interactive whiteboard and is a lot of fun. • There is an action that goes with each letter/ sound. • Students are encouraged to use a ‘writing card’ to help them sound out words independently and help their peers.

  5. Chunk Check Cheer • As children get older they begin to use Chunk Check Cheer as a way of learning new words to spell in their writing. They also use a look, cover, write, check method of learning spelling words.
