  16. Christian Hospitality • Attitude of Servanthood: • John 13:3-9 Washing the Disciples’ feet • John 13:13-15 “You call me Teacher and Lord – and you are right, for that is what I am. So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have set for you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you.” Ephesians 6:7-8 “Remember service with enthusiasm, as to the Lord and not to men and women, knowing that whatever good we do, we will receive the same again from the Lord, …” I Peter 4:9 “Be hospitable to one another without complaining.”

  17. Christian Hospitality • Understanding Hospitality Definition of Hospitality: The spirit, practice, or act of being hospitable. Hospitable: 1. Behaving in a kind and generous manner toward guests; fond of entertaining guests.

  18. Christian Hospitality • From Disciple Bible Study: “Hospitality is an attitude, a posture, a willingness to let others enter your life. It is Abraham and Sarah welcoming the angels with an unexpected happy meal. (Genesis 18:1-8) …Hospitality is the willingness to share time and space with another person. It is Eli taking Samuel into his care. It is Jesus talking with the woman at the well ….”

  19. Christian Hospitality • So, why offer hospitality? • Because God invites us to: “Do not neglect to show hospitality • to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels • without knowing it” Hebrews 13:2 • After the Exodus, the answer was because once you were • strangers in Egypt. Hospitality to the stranger is an act of grace • and compassion. • In Matthew 25:31-40 we learn that by offering hospitality we • will be receiving Christ Himself. Hospitality is essential to spreading the Gospel!

  20. Christian Hospitality • Biblical Images: • Genesis 18:1-8 (Abraham and Sarah & 3 strangers) Key words: Ran, Bowed, Acted, Provided, Hastened, Ran, Took, Set, Stood. • Luke 15:11-24 (the prodigal son) • Philippians 4:13 (Apostle Paul) Key words: Filled, Ran, Hug, Kiss, Put, Killed, Celebrate. “I can do all things through (Christ) who strengthens me.”

Mark 6:30-32 The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught.
