Region 1 Awards DUTIES (From R1 Bylaws) The Awards and Recognition Committee shall assist the Region Director in coordinating any Regional awards which may be brought to her/his attention by the member Sections or by IEEE Headquarters The committee shall serve in an advisory capacity to the BoG and to the Director in the development of new awards which recognize activities of worth and merit within the region. The committee shall carry out those activities associated with the processing of Region 1 Awards

  3. Region 1 Awards Chair The Chair of the Awards and Recognition Committee shall be appointed by the Region Director in accordance with Section 7.3.1.2 of the Bylaws. Committee Members The Awards and Recognition Committee shall consist of a minimum of 4 members, including at least 1 from each area. The appointees shall be Senior Member Grade or higher. The composition of the committee shall reflect, insofar as possible, the geographical scope of the Region and the professional interests of the IEEE. No more than one member from any Section shall concurrently serve on the Committee in a given year. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: Usually made up of Chair and 4 Area Chairs

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION PROGRAM The awards and recognition program of the Member and Geographic Activities Board (MGA) is designed to help promote the IEEE's purpose of recognizing outstanding achievement in electrical, electronics, and computer engineering worldwide.  AWARDS AND RECOGNITION PROGRAM • The awards and recognition program of the Member and Geographic Activities Board (MGA) is designed to help promote the IEEE's purpose of recognizing outstanding achievement in electrical, electronics, and computer engineering worldwide.  Achievement Award • To recognize individuals involved with MGA and/or the Regional Network who are recognized for a singular achievement in the development and completion of a project(s) or activity(ies) which are directed to the fulfillment of one or more of the goals and objectives of MGA. This award is designed to recognize those substantive projects or achievements of a relatively short nature (one to three years) but which have left an undeniable imprint on the fabric of Regional Operations. Leadership Award • To recognize those individuals who have exhibited exemplary and substantive leadership of an extraordinary nature in implementing activities, which support MGA goals and objectives at the local, regional, national, and/or international level. Innovation Award • To recognize the accomplishment judged to be the most innovative and effective in fulfilling one or more of the goals and objectives of MGA and/or the personal goals of the Vice President of Regional Activities. Larry K. Wilson Transnational Award • To recognize the accomplishment judged to be the most significant and effective in fulfilling one or more of the Transnational goals and objectives of MGA and/or personal goals of the Vice President of Regional Activities as related to Transnational activities.  This award is made in memory of Dr. Larry K. Wilson. GOLD Achievement Award • Modeled after the Achievement Award, this award is designed to recognize those substantive projects or achievements of a relatively short nature (one to three years) but which have left an undeniable imprint on the fabric of GOLD operations.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION PROGRAM The awards and recognition program of the Member and Geographic Activities Board (MGA) is designed to help promote the IEEE's purpose of recognizing outstanding achievement in electrical, electronics, and computer engineering worldwide.  Region 1 Awards Goals • Fully comply with the R1 Bylaws • All Committee Positions filled NLT February 29. • Improve Awareness of the Benefits in Member Recognition, for both Technical and Leadership Accomplishment • Motivational • Prestige with Employers/Institutions • Promotes IEEE Advertisement and Awareness • Break Through Barriers such as National Engineer’s Week • Often recognizes Civil, Structural more than EE’s • Example; 2008 NH Young Engineer of the Year is IEEE Member w/o PE License (A first!) • Increase Cooperative Award Involvement with other Engineering Societies • Improve Knowledge of Awards Available and Process for Submittal • Increase Publicity through Various Media • Broadcast, Newspapers, Electronic Mail • Distribute Awards within three months following Summer BoG Vote • Make at least One Regional Award to a member from 80% of the Region 1 Sections in 2008 • Make at least One Regional Award to a member from 100% of the Region 1 Sections in 2009
