Instructions • Use the outline maps and the four clues to work out which country it is. • Points could be awarded based on how quickly a team guesses the answer correctly: 5 points if they can identify the country from the map alone, 4 points if they can get it after one clue, 3 points if they get it after two clues, 2 points if they get it after three clues, and 1 point if they get it with after all four clues have been revealed, obviously 0 points if they still can’t get it after all of these. • There are 10 countries to guess, the answers are shown on the last slide (so you may want to remove or hide that slide until after answers from all teams have been collected in!).

Country 1 • Clues... • This country lies in the Eastern Hemisphere. • This country is the world’s biggest producer of opium poppies. • This country was controlled by The Taliban until NATO forces invaded following the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Centre towers in New York. • The name of this country begins with the letter A.

Country 2 • Clues... • This country lies in the Western Hemisphere. • This country links North America with Central America. • This country’s capital city is the world’s largest city, and is called a ‘megacity’ because it has over 10million people living in it. • The name of this country begins with the letter M.

Country 3 • Clues... • This country lies in the Southern Hemisphere. • This country is made up of two islands, one called North Island and the other called South Island and their national symbol is the Kiwi bird. • This country is closest major country to the International Date Line. • The name of this country begins with the letter N.

  6. Country 4 • Clues... • This country lies in the Northern Hemisphere. • This country lies on the Adriatic Sea. • This country (along with Serbia, Croatia, and Kosovo) was once part of a much bigger country called Yugoslavia. • The name of this country begins with the letter B.

Country 5 • Clues... • This country lies in the Southern Hemisphere. • This country is the world’s biggest producer of soya and iron ore. • This country was once the world’s largest “natural lungs” but it’s rainforests are being cut down by loggers at the rate of an area the size of Wales disappearing each year. • The name of this country begins with the letter B.

Country 6 • Clues... • This country lies in the Eastern Hemisphere. • This country is the most populous country in the world (containing about one-fifth of the world’s population). • This country was until recently a very secretive country where free speech was banned, and a group of protesters were famously killed for demanding this in a place called Tiananmen Square. • The name of this country begins with the letter C.

Country 7 • Clues... • This country lies in the Southern Hemisphere. • This country is one of the poorest in the world, where only 1 in 10 people have a job and inflation (the rate at which prices are rising) is running at over 1,000,000,000%. • This country recently held presidential elections but the ruling president refused to recognise the results and forced a run-off between the two candidates. • The name of this country begins with the letter Z.

Country 8 • Clues... • This country lies in the Western Hemisphere. • This country is close to the Equator and lies on the path which hurricanes take as they cross the North Atlantic heading towards the USA. • This country is famous for reggae music and the singer song writer Bob Marilee. • The name of this country begins with the letter J.

Country 9 • Clues... • This country lies in the Northern Hemisphere. • This country is on the western extremity of Europe and so receives all the rain running in off the Atlantic on the Gulf Stream. • This country iconic logo are the four-leaf clover and it’s national drink is Guinness. • The name of this country begins with the letter I.

Country 10 • Clues... • This country lies in the Northern Hemisphere. • This country has the same population as the UK but has a land area approximate twice that of the UK. • This country holds the record for having the worlds fastest train – the TGV. • The name of this country begins with the letter F.
