  3. Restarts & Set Pieces How important are set pieces? • In soccer, almost 30% of all goals come from a set piece. Has anyone's team wasted an opportunity during a restart? • It is estimated a U12 or U14 match has 30-40 restart opportunities on average. Would it increase your team's chances for success if they made correct decisions during these 30 - 40 restarts?...

  4. Restarts & Set Pieces Overview: The objective of this workshop is: To provide you, the coach, with the necessary knowledge needed for teaching Attacking Set Pieces to your players.

  11. Restarts & Set Pieces When working on restarts and set pieces, remember to: • KEEP IT SIMPLE! • Maximize your team’s strengths • Minimize your team’s weaknesses • Exploit the other team’s weaknesses • Teach the players the laws of the game How many restarts are there? 8

  12. Restarts & Set Pieces The 8 Restarts: 1) Kick Off 2) Goal Kick 3) Corner Kick 4) Drop Ball 5) Throw In 6) Direct Free Kick 7) Indirect Free Kick 8) Penalty Kick

  13. Restarts & Set Pieces Kickoff Starts the game at the beginning of each half, or after a goal is scored. Goal Kick Restarts the game when a player from the attacking team kicks the ball over the defending goal line. Corner Kick Restarts the game after the ball is played over the goal line by the defending team.

  14. Restarts & Set Pieces Drop Ball Restarts the game when the referee stops the game for any reason and does not use one of the other restarts. Throw-Ins Throw-ins restart the game when the ball goes over the touch line. Direct And Indirect Free Kicks Restarts the game after the referee has called a foul.
