  1. Trayvon Martin

  2. “Florida teen killed by watch captain said he was followed.George Zimmerman claims he shot unarmed black teen Trayvon Martin in self-defence"

  3. “An unarmed black teenager shot to death by a Florida neighbourhood watch captain told his girlfriend he was being followed shortly before the confrontation that killed him.”

  4. “’Oh he's right behind me, he's right behind me again,' 17-year-old Trayvon Martin told his girlfriend on the phone.” • “The neighbourhood watch captain, George Zimmerman, has not been charged and has said he shot Martin, who was returning to a gated community in Sanford after buying candy at a convenience store, in self-defence after Martin attacked him."

  5. “Police say Zimmerman is white; his family says he is Hispanic."

  6. “Police say Zimmerman was bleeding from his nose and the back of his head, and told police he had yelled out for help before he shot Martin."

  7. “Martin told the [his girlfriend] on his way back from the store he'd taken shelter from the rain briefly at an apartment building in the gated community where his father lives… Martin then told the girl he was being followed and would try to lose the person, Crump said."

  8. “The phone call ended before the girl heard gunshots." • "The last call was at 7:12 p.m. Police arrived at 7:17 p.m. to find Martin lying face down on the ground."

  9. “Zimmerman was handcuffed after police arrived and taken into custody for questioning, but was released by police without being charged."

  11. Recent Updates • March 28, 2012: Democratic Congressman Bobby Rush was ejected from the House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. after addressing the chamber while wearing a hoodie. • http://www.cbc.ca/strombo/social-issues/international-day-for-the-elimination-of-racial-discrim.html

  12. A Million Hoodie March held in New York City last week has been replicated across the U.S., with marchers turning up in the same outfit Martin was wearing at the time of his death. The teen's hoodie has become a symbol of racial profiling, a garment that, according to the 911 call that preceded Martin's death, made him appear "real suspicious" to Zimmerman, and which Fox News personality Geraldo Rivera said was "as much responsible for Trayvon Martin's death as George Zimmerman was."

  13. U.S. President Barack Obama commented on the Martin case, telling a press gathering at the White House simply that "If I had a son, he'd look a lot like Trayvon."

  14. April 11, 2012: Zimmerman is charged with second degree murder.
