  1. So You Want to Do Course Redesign? A Course Redesign Community of Practice 2007 Redesign Conference

  2. The Problem: Large (31,000+) State University Increasingly larger introductory courses Dominated by lecture Spotty DFWI results Often Bulimic learning Etc. The Solution: Implement a 7 year course redesign project that transforms large enrollment undergraduate courses by engaging and enabling faculty members to design, apply, and assess innovative instructional techniques. One of (the many) Challenges: How do you engage and enable faculty in a long-term project?

  3. Our Solution: A Course Redesign CoP • Began with faculty teams around five courses • Three retreats/year • Monthly working breakfast/lunch • Additional 4-5 courses teams/year • CoP includes support personnel • Faculty Fellow and Senior Faculty Fellow • Lots of attention

  4. Assessment of CoP • Use of the Analysis of Community of Practice Interaction Instrument • The growth of the UNT Course Redesign CoP • The willingness of members to serve as Senior Faculty Fellows • The number of times a redesigned section is taught by the faculty fellow • The number of times a redesigned section is adopted by other faculty • The amount of redesign that occurs in other courses
