Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother is as old as the century, having been born Lady Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon on 4 August 1900. She was the ninth of ten children of the Earl and Countess of Strathmore. She married Prince Albert, “Bertie”, the second son of King George V, on 26 April 1923 and her husband acceded to the Throne on the abdication of his elder brother King Edward VIII on 11 December 1936.
