  13. THE “PERFECT” PERSONAL STATEMENT • A personal statement (or statement of purpose or personal essay) is required by just about every pharmacy school program. It should indicate where you have been, where are you going, and how your experiences have prepared you for where you are going

  14. Purpose? • Persuade the individuals who read your personal statement that you are an applicant who should be considered for admission. • Talk about your accomplishments and motivatations • Discuss your skills and your personality traits • Explain major influences and goals

  15. Format • Introduction • Attention Getter • Show your originality and personality • Detailed Supporting Paragraphs • Analyze and answer all questions completely • Conclusion • Know who you are • Possess the qualities of a… • Good pharmacy student? • Good pharmacist?

Don’t… Blabber; be concise Use slang and avoid cliches Exaggerate; be honest Forget to look for spelling and grammatical errors (that SpellCheck misses) • Do… • Be sincere and positive • Read the prompt carefully • Start with an attention getter • Or begin directly answering question • Have multiple people revise your personal statement • Write no more than 4500 characters (limit on PharmCas)
