  3. What tectonic plates caused the earthquake in Japan? Back in January, Japanese seismologists warned that the tectonic plates colliding beneath the Pacific Ocean off the north-east coast of Japan were poised to slip catastrophically. The researchers were surprised only by the sheer size of the magnitude 9.0 monster that was unleashed when the plates at last let go on March 11th. The Eurasian and Pacific Tectonic Plates.

What is the total death toll in Japan thus far? • The death toll from Japan's earthquake and tsunami rose to more than 9,000, said Japanese officials on Tuesday. • The number of confirmed dead is 9,079 • 12,645 remain missing, according to the National Police Agency of Japan. • An additional 2,663 people were classified as injured. * As of March 22nd

  6. How have the complications with the nuclear power plant affected the Japanese people? • More than 67 people have been exposed to nuclear radiation in Fukushima prefecture after radioactive leak from nuclear power plant that damaged after hit by earthquake and tsunami. (Saturday March 19)

  12. Precautions • The people of Japan have been encouraged to travel by car rather than walk because of the chance of exposure to nuclear radiation. They are trying to make it where if the Japanese people are not exposed outdoors or out in the rain, without a skin protector.
