  1. Inquiry: How do I design a controlled experiment? (identifying variables, controls and experimental groups) Task: Today we will set up an investigation as a class to answer the question: “How does the type of ball (tennis ball vs. wiffle ball) affect how many shots I make in a container?” Complete the IDD by: • Entering the title: “The affect of the type of ball (tennis ball vs. wiffle ball) on the amount of shots I make in a container.” • Entering the question (See above) • Writing an “if…then…because…” hypothesis • Identifying the Independent variable for this investigation. • Identifying the Dependent Variable for this investigation. • Identifying at least 3 constant variables for this investigation.

  2. Inquiry: How do I design a controlled experiment? (identifying variables, controls and experimental groups) • Entering the title: “The affect of the type of ball (tennis ball vs. wiffle ball) on the amount of shots I make in a container.” • Entering the question: “How does the type of ball (tennis ball vs. wiffle ball) affect how many shots I make in a container?”

  3. Inquiry: How do I design a controlled experiment? (identifying variables, controls and experimental groups) 1)We will pass a wiffle ball and a tennis ball around the circle. Take about 10 secs (each student) to make qualitative observations about the differences between them. 2) Writing an “if…then…because…” hypothesis

  4. Inquiry: How do I design a controlled experiment? (identifying variables, controls and experimental groups) • Identifying the Independent variable for this investigation. • Skip the part that says “Levels of I.V” • Identifying the Dependent Variable for this investigation. • Identifying at least 3 Constant variables for this investigation. “How does the type of ball (tennis ball vs. wiffle ball) affect how many shots I make in a container?”
