Köchl (TU Wien) Radial (left) and poloidal (right) cross-correlation of density fluctuations for several imposed ExB flow shear strengths with fixed flow speed: stronger shear enhances correlations (A. Kendl et al., Univ. Innsbruck, using the code ATTEMPT from FZ Jülich) Power flux to the outer divertor plate during a Type-I ELM from simulation with BIT 1 and infrared thermography (JET shot #74380; S. Kuhn, D. Aumayr (TU Wien) M. Probst, P. Scheier, R. Schrittwieser, D. Tskhakaya (Univ. Innsbruck) Comparison of steady-state sputtering yields for impact of N2+ ions on soft a-C:H with previous data for hard a-C:H and the results of TRIM.SP calculations (only kinetic sputtering contributions) F. Aumayr et al., TU Wien) Modelling of material mixing: energy profile as a function of the Be-surface distance (M. Probst et al., Univ. Innsbruck)

  7. CCE-FU Workshop on the European fusion roadmap for FP8 and beyond IPP Garching, 13-14 April 2011 Association EURATOM-ÖAW Predictive Modelling and Stellarator Physics: Roadmap Objectives 2 and 4 Relevant expertise: W. Kernbichler (TU Graz) • Numerical evaluation of neoclassical toroidal viscosity due to non-resonant • magnetic perturbations, using the drift kinetic equation solver NEO-2 • NEO-2 is now capable now of modelling electron cyclotron current drive (ECCD) • ´ efficiency in tokamaks fast and with reasonable CPU times • NEO-2 is also suitable for stellerator modelling (higher dimensionality) with • reasonable CPU times. Therefore NEO will also be used for the computation of • ECCD in W7-X in co-operation with IPP Greifswald.

  8. CCE-FU Workshop on the European fusion roadmap for FP8 and beyond IPP Garching, 13-14 April 2011 Association EURATOM-ÖAW Plasma Stability – Plasma Turbulence and Transport: Roadmap Objective 2 Relevant expertise: A.Kendl, R. Schrittwieser (Univ. Innsbruck), F. Aumayr (TU Wien) Density morphology in a simulation using the code GEMR, including profiles and turbulence in a single dependent variable (left) in quiescent phases and (centre) during a burst. Right: An ELM crash scenario as an extreme form of burst phenomenon, driven by a long-wave MHD instability which then saturates on self-generated micro-turbulence (A. Kendl et al., Univ. Innsbruck). Investigation of plasma turbulence: visualization of a palm tree mode (PTM) filament on a q=3 surface. (R. Schrittwieser et al., Univ. Innsbruck)
