  6. Loyalists/Tories • American colonists who remained loyal to Britain and opposed the war for independence. (p.145)

  7. Mercantilism • The theory that a state’s or nation’s power depended on its wealth (p. 59, 109)

  8. Nonimportation • The act of not importing or using certain goods. (p. 134)

  9. Olive Branch (Petiton) • A formal request (p. 148)
