Math[GENERAL MATH I, II & CONSUMER MATH] “Do problems repetitively!” • Math is not a spectator sport. • Work to understand the principles. • Mathematics is cumulative. • Math Tests • Keep a list of things to remember • Quickly look over the test & budget your time • Check your answers & look for careless mistakes during the last few minutes of your test time • Word Problems • Translate the written words in to a mathematical equation • Put it in your own words • Pick out specific information • Translate the information into an equation • Solve the equation you have written and label you answer • Check your answer(s)

Science[fitness & nutrition, earth science, biology & physical science] “Study for understanding, do not memorize!” • Think: “How can I relate this to my everyday life?” • Read for a purpose. • Study for understanding, do not memorize. • Analyze graphs, tables and figures. • Critically think through equations.

What is required is persistence and patience.” – Boise State University • Five suggestions for overcoming math/science anxiety: • Do not confine yourself to exact answers or processes • Do not use self-defeating talk • Do not run away from your intuition • Do not consider you questions dumb • Do not run away from math/science frustrations • Use Khan Academyfor more help and practice!
