  3. Consensus Standards Process- ANSI - • American National Standards Institute • Founded in 1918 • Private, non-profit organization • Administers and coordinates U.S. voluntary standardization and conformity assessment system for APTA Annual Meeting, 2002

  4. Consensus Standards Process- National Standards - • ANSI doesn’t develop standards • ANSI facilitates development • Consensus, due process and openness • More than 175 accredited entities • www.ansi.org for more information for APTA Annual Meeting, 2002

Consensus Standards Process- IEEE Standards Association - • One entity producing standards • Audited for conformance to ANSI requirements (e.g. consensus) • Standards to provide common ground for communication in specific areas of electrotechnology • Each standard must have a sponsor for APTA Annual Meeting, 2002
