  1. PERM: Seismic Hazard Assessment Pavel Vasak – Principal Investigator, MIRARCO Giovanni Grasselli, U. of Toronto Technical Advisor: Dr. Peter K. Kaiser, CEMI

  2. PERM: Hazard Map Project • MS density • Rock mass damage • Active planes • Presence of active MS planes • Seismic event magnitude • Peak particle velocity Hazard Map Factors: Outcome: Operational real-time system at Creighton Mine

  3. Hazard Map Benefits • Strategy • Hazard maps to track changing rock mass conditions • Location of critical infrastructure and future mine planning • Support upgrading and rehabilitation (where and when) • Safety • Enhance worker safety by identifying potentially hazardous areas • Operating Costs • Support upgrading and rehabilitation • Ore pass and ventilation raise location– hazard maps • Prevent production delays or ore sterilization • Training • Understanding mine specific problems and transferring knowledge • Reduce on-site training cycle for new personnel – 3D common earth model • Due diligence– State-of-the-art monitoring process • Seismic and MS data collection and evaluation

  4. Partners • The research work would not have been possible without the support of the CVRD Inco Limited particularly the former INCO Technology Centre and Creighton Mine. • Special thanks are directed to: • Mr. Brian Maynard, Manager Creighton Mine • Mr. Farid Malek and Steve Audette, Creighton Mine ground control. • Mr. Denis O’Donnell and Dr. Denis Thibodeau, long-term ground control supporters. • Additional support was provided through the following agencies: • NOHFCO, CFI, OIT, OR&DCF
