  1. Soil As a Microbiological Environment

  2. Soil as a microbiological environment • SOIL ATMOSPHERE • SOIL WATER • SOIL pH • SOIL TEMPERATURE • INTERACTION BETWEEN ENVIRONMENTAL  FACTORS

  3. SOIL ATMOSPHERE • Gas in the soil comes from the outside air and the activity of microbial >N2, the N fixation by microbes, soil N cycle processes>O2, the result of photosynthesis>CO2, the result of microbial respiration

  4. The pores in the soil mineral or organic content of the gas and water • Gas content in the soil determine the type of microbes:> aerobic microbial> anaerobic microbial> facultative microbial

  5. Ground Water Ground water is essential to the life of the soil biota Groundwater is determine :> soil humidityand > availability of water for soil biota: the solubility ofminerals for plant and microbe’s nutrientsis high

  6. SOIL pH • Soil pH plays an important role in avaibility of soil nutrient to soil microorganism • Soil pH acts on the action of the enzyme that produced of the soil microbial • On acid soils, nutrients are less available to soil biota • On neutral soils, sufficient available nutrients for the soil biota

  7. SOIL TEMPERATURE • Soil temperature influence : > the reaction physiology of biota cell > physico-chemical characteristics of the environment example:  soil volume, pressure, oxidation-reduction potential, diffusion, viscosity, structure, groundwater, surface pressure

  8. SOIL TEMPERATURE • High temperature, protein denaturation and microbial cell wall  denaturation • Low temperatures, microbial activity stopped

  9. Microbiology of soil InteractionBetween Environment Factor
