  2. UV Purification • UV sterilization affects waterborne contaminants and disease causing pathogens with a 99.9% kill rate. The result is high quality water exceeding all health department standards. • Why it would not work in Nigeria: • UV is often the last device in a treatment train (a series of treatment devices), following reverse osmosis, water softening, or filtration. • Since lamp intensity decreases over time with use, lamp replacement is a key maintenance consideration

  3. Tablet Purification • Each tablet contains a measured dose of Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate, commonly referred to as NaDCC. When added to water AQUATABS® dissolve to release a measured dose of hypochlorous acid (free available chlorine) that is universally recognized as a safe and effective water disinfectant.1 tablet purifies 1 liter of unsanitary water • The water should needs to sit for at least 30 minutes after adding the chemical to allow purification to occur. • Why it would not work in Nigeria: • No sustainability; always need more • Average family in Nigeria uses 5 to 10 L of water a day • Water must be approved by another product, test strip, before safe DESCRIPTION: 50 x 8.5 mg Extra Strength water purification tablets. Each tablet treats 1 L. Safe, simple, easy to use. Prevent Travellers’ Diarrhea, Giardia, e. Coli, faecalcoliforms, Cholera, Typhoid and other waterborne disease and illness. No unpleasant taste or color. Does not contain Iodine. Made in Ireland. 17 grams per carton. Also includes dosage chart/ information pamphlet. Please read the FAQs for more information.

  4. Dams • Because dams are usually used in conjunction with UV purification and carbon filtering, a dam alone could only be used as a debris dam and remove much larger impurities out of the moving water • Why it would not work in Nigeria: • Too expensive • Storage facility for water would also have to be installed • Maintenence requires skilled workers

  5. Purification System • We choose this method because it is • -cheap • - effective • easy to install • easy to use and maintain • There are some water purifiers that are solar powered • Innovations and adjustments must be added so the machine could withstand Nigeria • If these purifiers were strategically placed near bodies of water in villages everybody could have clean water
