IGFS – International Gravity Field Service • Established in Sapporo 2003 • “Level-2” service coordinating activities of: BGI (FAGS) - Toulouse IGeS - Milano ICET (FAGS) - Bruxelles ICGEM (International Centre for Global Earth Models) – Potsdam DEM service – Montfort Univ., UK (to be initiated) Technical Center of the IGFS – NIMA/NGA – St. Louis • Purpose: - Coordination, initiatiate cooperative projects relating to the collection and archiving of gravity field related data - Coordinate schools, courses, meetings (e.g. geoid schools and gravimetry schools) - Joint electronic, partially reviewed journal – “Newtons Bulletin” - General outreach relating to earth’s gravity field

Affiliates … about 20 scientists • Activities: Clarification of chairman and IAG role fall 2003 Consulting meeting with BGI + IGeS + ICET …Milano, Feb 2004 1st Advisory Board meeting – EGU Nice .. • Actions - short term: Web page Project initiation (e.g. Vertical Datum, EGM2005 validation ..) Absolute gravity – intensify effort for GGOS Regional gravity field activities (Africa? Antarctica/IPY?) … 1st General mtg of the IGFS /Comm. 2: Istanbul, Turkey, Sep. 2006
