  1. Writing An example about Robots

  2. Statement given (the question) Robots of the past and the present are completely different Your idea (do you agree or not) It is my opinion that robots of the past and the present are not completely different Change your idea into an opening sentence There are three main reasons why I think robots of the past and present are not completely different

  3. Question your opening sentence Why are the robots of the past and present not completely different? Answer 1 Robots are still controlled by instructions Answer 2 Robots still cannot move as well as humans Answer 3 Robots still cannot reason as well as humans

  4. Give examples / details about each idea From Idea 1 Robots had instructions loaded into a memory chip when they were built – Robots today have instructions loaded when robot operation has to be changed – Example, robots sent to Saturn have their instructions sent from earth and loaded into their memory every evening. From Idea2 Robots had wheels and moved along straight paths – Today’s robots have legs, but can still only move in straight lines, and often fall over – Example, It has taken Japan years to produce Asimo which still cannot move as well as a human! From Idea3 Robots could do many calculations per second – Robots now can do many calculations per second – Example Deep Blue, a chess playing computer, can do many calculations and win a chess match, but it still cannot reason like a human.

  5. Finish nicely with a summary of your main ideas The three reasons why I think robots of the past and the present are not completely different is because they are both; still controlled by instructions, they cannot move as well as humans, and they cannot reason like humans. Put it all together into a small paragraph of at least 125 – 150 wordsand edit as required

  6. There are three main reasons why I think robots of the past and present are not completely different; their instructions, movement and reasoning. The first reason is they are both controlled by instructions. Robots had instructions loaded into memory when they were built. Similarly, robots today have instructions loaded when robot operation has to be changed. For example, robots sent to Saturn have instructions sent from earth loaded into their memory every evening. The next reason is they still cannot move as well as humans. Robots moved along straight paths on wheels. Today’s robots have legs, but still only move in straight lines, and often fall over. For example Asimo still cannot move as well as a human! The final reason is they still cannot reason as well as humans. Robots could do many calculations per second. Likewise, robots now can do many calculations per second. For example Deep Blue, a chess computer, calculates how to win chess matches, but still cannot reason like humans. To conclude, three reasons why I think robots of the past and present are not completely different is they are both; still controlled by instructions, cannot move as well as humans, and cannot reason like humans.
