  26. UTM Achievements Merdeka Award 2009Two prominent UTM figures received the Merdeka Award 2009; Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. ZainiUjang for the Outstanding Scholastic Achievement and Prof. Dr. HalimatonHamdan for Health, Science and Technology. UTM’s former Pro-Chancellor, the late Tun Fatimah Hashim was announced as one the recipients for the Education and Community category. Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand 2010UTM is recognised as a Trusted Brand in the University category by the Reader’s Digest Magazine.

UTM Achievements World Webometric Ranking UTM is now in 2nd place in the World Webometric Ranking and placed in top position in the World Institutional Repository (IR) Ranking among all higher learning institutions in Malaysia. SETARA Rating UTM is among 18 Universities ranked excellent (on tier 5) in the recent list of the Rating System for the Malaysian Higher Education Institutions (SETARA 2009) announced on 12, July 2010

UTM Achievements Malaysia Technology Exposition (MTE) 2010UTM won the five main awards of the exposition and all 52 UTM products received awards at the Malaysian Technology Exposition organised by the Malaysian Association of Research Scientists (MARS) 2010. Global Outreach ProgrammeAn initiative by UTM to enhance its  students’ personal, academic and professional perspective to be global ready graduates. To date 4830 have participated in the programme which provides students with the opportunity to visit universities abroad.

UTM Achievements National Intellectual Property Award (2006, 2009, 2010)UTM is one of the major contributors to the development of the nation’s Intellectual Properties and has won the award three times in the organisation category.UTM Satellite Office in Japan 2010UTM is the only university in this region to establish a Satellite office in Japan to enhance collaboration in various fields with Japanese universities and industries. The officiating ceremony was witnessed by the Prime Minister of Malaysia at Meiji University.

UTM Achievements The Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation AwardUTM became the first local university in the region to be awarded the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Award 2009 in recognition of UTM’s significant role in promoting collaborations and close relations between Malaysian and Japanese universities. 25 Awards at the Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF 2009)UTM bagged 25 awards at the Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF 2009) in Seoul, South Korea.
