  2. Diesel Technology Skilled Diesel Technicians are in great demand locally, regionally, and nationally. A greater need is projected for the future. As a result of recent economic changes, many owners of diesel powered equipment have been forced to keep equipment longer, demand sustained performance, and expect quality service. Diesel Technicians tend to command slightly higher wages than their Automotive counterparts. Graduates typically are employed in medium/heavy duty truck shops, dealerships, and fleet garages. Other opportunities exist with the armed forces.

  3. Diesel Technology The program was developed and based on National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) standards. Students gain knowledge and skills through a variety of hands-on tasks and activities. Students are prepared and encouraged to take the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Medium/Heavy Duty Truck certification exams (T-2, T-3, T-4, T-5, T-6, and T-8). Students are also able to take the National Automotive Student Skills Standards Assessment (NA3SA) exams for Diesel Engines and Electrical/Electronic Systems. Successful completion of this program will satisfy one (1) of the two (2) years of required work experience for ASE certification.

  4. Diesel Technology Diesel Technology is a three (3) year program (approximately 790 hours). This program provides the student with entry-level knowledge and skills in the diesel powered equipment field. Students study personal, tool, and equipment safety, environmental issues, and medium/heavy duty truck systems including: Diesel Engines (T-2) – 195 Hours General Diesel Engine Theory, Diagnosis and Repair Cylinder Head and Valve Train Diagnosis and Repair Engine Block Diagnosis and Repair Lubrication System Diagnosis and Repair Cooling System Diagnosis and Repair Air Induction and Exhaust System Diagnosis and Repair Fuel System Diagnosis and Repair Engine Brake Diagnosis and Repair

Diesel Technology Drive Trains (T-3) – 90 Hours Clutch Diagnosis and Repair Transmission Diagnosis and Repair Driveshaft and Universal Joint Diagnosis and Repair Drive Axle Diagnosis and Repair Brakes (T-4) – 105 Hours Air Brake Diagnosis and Repair Hydraulic Brake Diagnosis and Repair Air and Hydraulic Anti-Lock (ABS) and Automatic Traction Control (ATC) Diagnosis and Repair Wheel Bearing Diagnosis and Repair

Diesel Technology Steering and Suspension (T-5) – 90 Hours Steering System Diagnosis and Repair Suspension System Diagnosis and Repair Wheel Alignment Diagnosis, Adjustment, and Repair Wheel and Tire Diagnosis and Repair Electrical/Electronics (T-6) – 210 Hours General Electrical System Theory, Diagnosis and Repair Battery Diagnosis and Repair Starter System Diagnosis and Repair Charging System Diagnosis and Repair Lighting System Diagnosis and Repair Gauge and Warning Device Diagnosis and Repair Related Electrical System Diagnosis and Repair

Engine Fuel System Air Induction and Exhaust System Cooling System Lubrication System Instruments and Controls Hardware Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Battery and Starting System Charging System Lighting System Air Brakes Hydraulic Brakes Drive Train Suspension and Steering Tires and Wheels Frame and Fifth Wheel Safety Equipment Diesel Technology Preventative Maintenance Inspection (T-8) – 105 Hours

  8. Diesel Technology Each program at the Forrest Career Center has an advisory committee. The committees are comprised of individuals from business and industry and provide realistic and relevant input to the program. In many instances, committee members have provided tools, material, and equipment to enhance learning. Committee members may also act as mentors, providing assistance to students with specific projects or assignments. Advisory committees are proactive in ensuring programs provide current, up to date training. Diesel Technology program committee members represent: Heavy Equipment Dealers Heavy Duty Parts Vendor County Government Electrical Power Distribution Independent Repair Facilities Owner/Operators
