INTRODUCTION • In 2004 RUPES Singkarak have been created • Paninggahan Committed that Reforestation and Aforestation one of the Rewards • Japan International Forestry Promotion & Cooperation Center (JIFPRO) since 2006 become the donor of Friendship Forest (FF) in Paninggahan Coolaboration with Singkarak Lake Foundation (Yayadas). • Up to present time have been developed 205 ha FF as Agroforestry Activities, hopingly in 2011 become 350 ha

The Site • Singkarak Lake about 21 km length 16 km m width depth 160 m; size 13,665 ha; 360 m above sea level; surrounded by 129,000 ha water catchments; located in central part of West Sumatera formerly Minangkabau Kingdom. • 30% of the water catchments area covered by alang-alang (Imperata cilindrica)

Site (continue) • There is electricity generators (PLTA) which provides for West Sumatera and Riau provinces (about 986 GWH per year) • From Singkarak Lake provide water for irrigation rise paddy in Solok, Padang Pariaman, Tanah Datar and, Swahlunto Sijunjung Districts; And for Ombilin Coal Mining.

CHALLENGES • Surrounding Singkarak Lake • 399,095 people, 205 per km2; 10% under poverty line; 4,559 families shifting cultivator in 10,624 ha of poor land. • Main source of income are agriculture and fishery in to the lake (76,5%) • Rewarding for environmental services encourage community maintaining natural resources and assist alleviate their poverty

Challenges (continue) • During dry season water in the Lake decrease including water Ombilin river as outlet of the lake. • During rainy season flooding risks to paddy fields surrounding the lake. • Circulation of water is not good then the quality of water decrease because the water is not pas through surface.
