  1. Mrs. Barnick’s Class May 5th – 9th Economics Class Party The carnival is just two weeks away. The students are really excited. I will be sending out an email with all the confirmed games later Monday afternoon. I am not sure if we are playing first or operating our games first, but I will get you that information as soon as I know. We will be having a picnic lunch outside and I will be providing dessert. If you would like to bring anything extra for the class as a treat, just let me know. Language Arts Reading/ Grammar/Writing: -We will be doing running records to determine your child’s end of year reading level. We are also working on fluency. The students should be reading at a Level U with 120 words per minute by the end of the year. We will be working on report card assessments this week and next – tying in some fun as we go! We are finishing up our persuasive writing. They are trying to persuade you “their parents’ on where you should take them for summer vacation. They are cute! Teacher Notes Math Book Order: Last one of the year – great to get some books for summer reading! Orders due by this Friday, May 9th. Spelling and Homework: no spelling words this week – we are done, and this will also be our last homework packet – yeah! Please still be sending in those Box Tops! In math we are reviewing various math skills that we have learned throughout the year. Science/ S.S. Economics: We will be completing our Unit on economics and talking more about our carnival. Please be talking with your child about the good or service they are going to create. Important Dates Technology May 9th– Field Day May 20th– Economics Carnival (Our end of the year party) May 23rd– Last Day of School & Movie Day REMEMBER: Send in a change of clothes, towel and water bottle for field day. As silly as it sounds extra undies and socks make the rest of the day more comfortable. Please supply a grocery bag for wet clothing. http://www.readworks.org/spring-and-summer-passages-and-question-sets-based-common-core-lexile-bands Students lose 20% of their reading skills over the summer. Although, they gain in back rather quickly within the few months of school – here are some printable paragraphs to do weekly over the summer to keep your child’s reading on track.
