  3. Attendance Policy • School starts at 8:15 and Kindergarten pickup is at 2:30- no playing on the play structure! • Tardies need to report to the office & pick up a late slip. • Absences need to be reported to the attendance clerk, Mrs. Allyson at 425-9600 x 630-110 • Absences exceeding 5 days need to be approved by the office in order to receive an Independent Study Contract.

  4. Classroom Expectations • Séseguro (Be safe) • Séamigable (Be friendly) • Sérespetuoso (Be respectful) • To foster your child’s socio-emotional • development, I have a positive behavior plan. • The students earn letter tickets whenever they are caught being safe, friendly or respectful. They can spend their dollars on Friday at our class store!

  5. Reading • Name upper and lowercase letters in less than 30 seconds • Say letter sounds in less than 30 seconds • Read high frequency words (75 minimum) • Rhyming words • Speak and write in complete sentences • Blending and segmenting words • Read with accuracy, fluency, and be able to answer comprehension questions.

  7. Spanish Phonics Program • We focus on 3-4 letter sounds a week • Vocabulary picture cards! • We learn 2-3 high frequency words per week • Libritos/ Letter Books! • Tie together high frequency words and vocab. • Read nightly with your child 15-20 minutes!

  9. Writing Students will independently write: • Narrative (narrativa): a story about me! • Informative/explanatory (expositiva): information about a topic • Opinion (opinión): my own ideas about a topic Sound spelling is our best friend!

  10. 10% English Instruction • Señorita Smith is our students’ English teacher! • Focus on oral language development • We will also watch videos in class to frontload information in English. • We will switch for 20 minutes Monday-Thursday.

  11. Math • Count to 100 • Recognize and write numbers 0-20 • Recognize and describe 2D and 3D shapes • Addition and subtraction within 10 • Conceptual Math

  13. Homework • Our school philosophy says kindergarteners should have 10 minutes of homework and 20 minutes of reading a night. • Homework is given on Fridays and expected back on Friday. • The purpose is to develop good study habits and to practice what is being taught

  15. Homework Menu • The Menu will be in your child’s folder on Friday. • Please do ONLY ONE activity from each page- your child can choose! • Help your child, but don’t do it for them. • Sound spelling is expected and encouraged!

  17. Birthday • Please take a look at and follow CVESD’s Wellness Policy. • DO NOT BRING: • Food • Balloons • Goody Bags • DO BRING!!!: • Donate a book to the classroom • I have big birthday stickers or crowns, and we will sing and have a five minute dance party on your child’s special day!

  18. Parent Conferences Fall: September 8-15 Spring: March 9-16

  19. Volunteers • You can volunteer but you need a TB test. Our school nurse is available to do it on Tuesdays. • Most important is dedicating quality time to help your child in accomplishing academic goals. • Please talk to me after about volunteering if you haven’t yet. I need a couple more helpers!
