The Computer's Ancestors • The Burroughs adding machine was a contraption which printed out columns of numbers and dates • In the very beginning of computer technology, there were two computer concepts and a computer built, the Analytical and Difference engine • In June, 1948, the first modern computer (named Baby) came up with the right answer on the display.

  3. Early Computers • ENIAC- first public, electric, and digital • Designed in Philadelphia • J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly were the designers • Only one ever made

  4. The First Hobby/Home Computer • Apple 1- The first highly successful PC • The MITS Altair 8800 was a microcomputer design from 1975 • The ADM-3A was one of the first computer terminals manufactured by Lear Siegler • The Xerox Alto was one of the first computers designed for individual use

  5. Two Guys In A Garage • 1976 • Steve Jobs and Steve Wasniak • 1st computer, in a garage? • Jobs, a Volkswagen minibus, Wozniak, a programmable HP calculator • Raised $1300 • Computer=$666 • Apple 2, 1977
