  1. God With Us: as Peace and Joy (What’s in Your Manger?)

  2. I Corinthians 1:30 But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who has become to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption.

  3. Jesus’ statements reveal that he thinks differently about peace than we might: Matthew 10:34 Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

  4. Jesus comes from heaven’s culture: Romans 11:33 Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! God is COMPLEX (not “complicated”)! We are made in His image! (We are all complex—some of us are just more aware of it than others!)

  5. What level of peace can we really expect to receive from God? HAVE WE IDEALIZED CHRISTMAS PEACE? (through the lens of a few carols)

  6. O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel…that mourns in lowly exile here…until the Son of God appear! Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel!

  7. Israel thought Jesus would overthrow Roman rule and bring them NATIONAL PEACE (a localized version of world peace)! People sometimes see Christmas as a world peace thing, (and we can indeed celebrate that aspect) but there is so much more to it than just what the pageant interviews cover!!

  8. There are beautiful songs like Silent Night and O Little Town of Bethlehem, that make us feel what we call “Christmas peace”, because the carol-composers projected on the town and the manger scene the qualities of the Son of God and the gift of peace. BUT, it wasn’t just just silent, was it?? The skies were tumultuous…and probably there was still normal, human misbehavior going on in Bethlehem that night!

  9. What if the night is not silent or the town is not still??? Ever heard of “peace in the midst of the storm”? We have a ROBUST Gospel truth! It can handle the chaos and win!

  10. GOD GIVES THE PHILLIPPIANS 4:7 KIND OF PEACE: And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. It’s peace IN THE SPIRIT!!! REDEMPTIVE PEACE---ETERNAL PEACE! It is LITERALLY from another realm!!! From “O Holy Night”: Long lay the world in sin and error pining Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth; A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices For yonder breaks a new glorious morn…Fall on your knees….!!

  11. More and more evidence in neuroscience tells us that normal brain function lives on the edge of “chaos”! OF COURSE! It was never meant to “run the show”! You need an UMPIRE to call the shots! Col. 3:15 AMPC And let the peace…of Christ rule (ACT AS UMPIRE CONTINUALLY) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ’s] one body you were also called [to live].

  12. WHEN YOU GET TO THAT KIND OF PEACE, YOU BEGIN TO TAP INTO KINGDOM JOY! Joy is peace in motion and having a party!  Joy is ENERGY! (Nehemiah 8:10 The joy of the Lord is your strength….) JOY is a biochemical release into your brain of what your Spirit knew all along!

  13. YOU WERE HARDWIRED FOR PEACE AND JOY!!!!!!

  14. Joy to the World; The Lord is come; Let Earth receive her King: Let every Heart prepare him Room, And Heaven and Nature sing. Joy to the Earth, The Saviour reigns; Let Men their Songs employ; While Fields & Floods, Rocks, Hills & Plains Repeat the sounding Joy. No more let Sins and Sorrows grow, Nor Thorns infest the Ground: He comes to make his Blessings flow Far as the Curse is found. He rules the World with Truth and Grace, And makes the Nations prove The Glories of his Righteousness, And Wonders of his Love.
