  3. Weather Instruments A thermometer measures temperatures. A wind vane points to the direction that the wind is blowing. A rain gauge measures how much rain has fallen.

  4. Different Types of Weather Thunderstorm Tornado Hurricane

  5. Thunderstorm A typical thunderstorm produces heavy rain, thunder, and lightning. It usually lasts from 30 minutes- 1 hour.

  6. Tornado Tornadoes are the most violent storms on Earth. Winds spiraling into them can reach speeds of 300 mph. . Click hereto see video clips of real tornadoes!

  8. Hurricane A hurricane is a tropical storm with winds that have reached a constant speed of 74 miles per hour or more. It can bring strong rains and high winds.
